The Annual Shakespeare Birthday Lecture is organised by the Shakespeare Institute of the University of Birmingham on behalf of the Shakespeare Birthday Celebrations Committee. In 1991, H.R.H. The Prince of Wales gave the lecture which took place on Monday 22 April.
The file includes letters from the organisers to Merchant inviting him to the lecture, and letters expressing their regret that he was not able to attend; a typescript copy of the lecture and a sermon given by Eric Anderson, Headmaster of Eton College; and press cutting concerning the lecture.
The file also includes an autograph and signed letter from Prince Charles expressing his regret that Merchant is unable to attend the lecture
