The papers relate to Merchant's meeting with Ruari McLean and the subsequent idea to print an edition of both 'Hamlet' and 'King Lear' based on Kozintsev films
Including correspondence between Merchant and both Ruari McLean and Grigori Kozintsev, with carbon copies of Merchant's letters to both, and newspapers articles on performances of Shakespeare's 'King Lear'.
Also included is a typescript entitled 'Grigori Kozintzev: Shakespeare on Film (the experiences of producing 'Hamlet' and 'King Lear' for cinema) and photographic black and white stills from Kozintsev's 'King Lear'
