Merchant took up sculpting relatively late in his life with the encouragement of his friend Barbara Hepworth. Examples of his work can be found on a number of university campuses, including Stirling, Cardiff, Warwick and Exeter, where his work forms part of a ‘Sculpture Walk’ alongside a piece by Barbara Hepworth, which Merchant helped the university acquire.
The papers in this series relate directly to his artistic output and his artist interests
