The papers comprise Edward Moulton Barrett’s letters received and copies of letters he sent and accounting and legal documents relating to the running of his estates in Jamaica including accounts, appraisal and inventories of estate of his brother Samuel Moulton-Barrett (d.1837); Edward’s letters to his son Samuel Moulton-Barrett who had moved to Jamaica in 1836 to assist in managing the estates with his uncle Sam; lists of labourers and their grounds on Retreat estate, scales of their wages; correspondence with former enslaved persons on estates in Jamaica; and papers relating to business and legal affairs in England
