Administrative / Biographical history
Edward Barrett Moulton-Barrett (known as ‘Bro’), was the second child of Edward and Mary Moulton-Barrett and the favourite of his sister Elizabeth. Born at Coxhoe Hall near Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1807, he spent his childhood at Hope End and received private tuition until he was sent to Charterhouse from 1820 to 1826. He was sent to Jamaica in November 1833 to assist his uncle Sam in running the family’s estates, until 1835, when he returned home. In July 1840, he was drowned in a boating accident at Babbacombe Bay in Devon.
