Arabel (Bel) Moulton-Barrett, was the mixed-heritage daughter of Charles John Moulton Barrett and a woman of colour, unnamed in the archive. Educated in France, influenced by her aunt Elizabeth Barrett Browning, she was active in the Empire Poetry League and also helped with informal archaeological digs at The Retreat, her childhood home.
