A collection of autograph letters and typescripts to, from and relating to Robert Browning. The autograph letters from and to Browning make up a large proportion of the collection. These are to a range of recipients, including friends, family and members of his literary circle. There is also a significant collection of autograph letters to and from Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, although some of these are typescripts. There is a smaller collection of autograph letters from Robert 'Pen' Browning, their son.

Expanding more widely, there is a collection of autograph letters between members of Browning's circle, including Clara Montalba and Mrs Bronson, Fanny Haworth, Mary Russell Mitford and others. Letters amongst Browning's contemporaries that reference him directly have been extracted and are catalogued under the sub-series of "Letters about Browning".
