Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett-Browning collection: Calling card from Robert Browning
Item
[c.1870]
1 card in an envelope
A calling card that belonged to Robert Browning in the late 1870s, with "Mr Robert Browning" printed on the front and "with thanks & goodbye" added in manuscript below (presumably Browning's hand). It dates from when Browning was in London and was purportedly left with Frederick Lehmann (1826-1891), businessman and Liberal politician. Lehmann's brother, Rudolph, created chalk sketches of Browning's hands, also in the Eton College Library Browning collection.
