George Smith (1824-1901) was a British publisher who took over Smith, Elder & Co. when George Smith, his father and the company's founder, died.

A collection of autograph letters from George Smith to Robert Browning between the years of 1875 and 1895 (some are undated). There are three autograph letters, a memo and receipt in George Smith's hand. Also included are six more letters that are George Smith's file copies and therefore not in his hand. These are clearly marked with "copy" on the front of each letter.
Given by Reginald Smith's widow (ca. 1914) to the publisher John Murray who had bought out the publishing firm of Smith Elder.
Chronologically within an envelope. Housed in box with letters from Robert Browning to George Smith (MS 682 01 01 03).
Also given at the same time were letters from Robert Browning to George Smith (MS 682 01 01 03) and documents related to the publication of Browning's poems by George Smith (MS 682 01 07 02).
