Lord Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) was Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland during much of Queen Victoria's reign and remains one of the most popular British poets. He was Browning's contemporary and acquaintance.

An autograph fragment containing lines 965-973 of the narrative poem 'Gareth and Lynette', published as part of 'The Idylls' in 1872. The lines are written in black ink and differ from the final version.
