Frederick James Furnivall (1825-1910) was an English philologist who also founded the Browning Society in 1881.

A small selection of Frederick Furnivall's personal papers and printed material.
There is a manuscript diary of Furnivall, beginning March 20th 1840, in a notebook with printed paper wrappers. Also included is a typed transcription of "extracts from the diaries of Frederick James Furnivall 1841-1851". There is a commission signed by George III appointing Frederick's father, George Furnivall, as resident surgeon in June 1803.
There is a photograph of a drawing by Carl Haag called 'Academy Students 17 November 1849', once owned by Furnivall. It is mounted on blue card and Furnivall's annotatations identify five of the students in the drawing. With two photograph copies. There is also a family photograph on the morning of a wedding on 13 September 1871 at Walnut Tree Cottage, Surrey. Annotated by Furnival.
In terms of printed material, the collection has four newspaper cuttings about Furnivall and a collection of twelve books and conference proceedings relating to or owned by Furnivall. Shelfmarks are in brackets:
