Thomas Hardy collection: Letters from Hardy to a number of recipients
File
1879-1925
1 folder and 2 individual items
108 letters from Thomas Hardy to a number of recipients. The majority are autograph letters, with some typed during the later years of Hardy's life. Most of the letters are published in Michael Millgate's 'The Collected Letters of Thomas Hardy', but 27 appear to be unpublished.
The letters cover a period of 46 years and are addressed to a variety of acquaintances, fellow authors and friends, including George de Maurier, Edmund Gosse, Dorothy Allhusen, Jemima Hardy (Hardy's mother), Sydney Cockerell and J. J. Foster.
There are two letters individually housed in four-fold wrappers. The other 106 letters are in a black folder.
The letters are arranged chronologically by the cataloguer.
A detailed list of the letters, including dates and to whom they are addressed, is available as an Excel Spreadsheet.
