Walter de la Mare (1873-1956) was an English poet, short story writer and novelist.

The volume contains seven autograph letters from Hardy to Walter de la Mare, from 1918 to 1923. Hardy comments on De la Mare's poetry and provides details about his daily life. On 15 October 1919, Hardy writes that, for him, De La Mare's 'The Song of the Mad Prince' "has a meaning almost too intense to speak of". Also included is an envelope addressed to De la Mare in Hardy's hand.
The letters have been arranged chronologically within the bound volume by the cataloguer.
