Containing photographs of Edward Gordon Craig’s model for the 1911 Moscow Arts Theatre production of Hamlet. The model was made in 1909. Also included are photographs, drawings and copies of notes made by Gordon Craig whilst in Moscow. Craig has annotated a number of the photographs.
It includes:
Negatives of various photographs of Craig in Moscow, and of his models used for the design
Photographs of the cardboard models used for the play scene and other photographs of Craig’s painted cardboard and wooden figures
Photograph of Craig’s figure for the character Hamlet
A photograph of Craig’s drawing for the ghost of Hamlet’s father
A photograph of Craig’s drawing for ‘Enter the Army’ (the original is part of the V&A collection)
Photographs, taken by Craig, of one of the costumes used in the first court scene
Two pencil sketches, made in Moscow, (c.1909-1911) during rehearsals for Hamlet
Photographs of autograph notes by Craig on the productions and his designs
Photographs of one of the workers, standing by the model stage used by Craig during preparation for the productions
