E.A. Craig collection: Artwork for marionette plays by Edward Gordon Craig
Item
[1914-1916]
11 items
Drawings for Edward Gordon Craig marionette designs. The creator of the artworks themselves is unclear, with Edward Gordon Craig, Edward A. Craig and Daphne Craig (“Two Two”) seeming to all have had a hand in their composition. The handwriting is by Edward Gordon Craig and Two-Two.
One suggestion is they are copies by “Two Two” from earlier drawings by Edward Gordon Craig, but with his help.
The images depict scenes from the plays and of the individual puppets, including:
‘The Three Men of Gotham’
‘Roman Adventure’
‘The Tune the Old Cow Died of’
The drawings are on tracing papers and in a mix of pencil and pen and ink, in-filled with coloured pencil.
