Notebooks containing various memoranda, mainly of a personal nature, and some pencil sketches. The first notebooks covers the period when he was living in Paris and Rome and includes notes on Shakespeare and the Elizabethan court, his various expenses, notes on a talk with Kyle Fletcher.
The second is incomplete, with many of the pages missing and the rest held loose in the bindings. It contains notes on his work as well as a childhood sketch by Edward A. Craig.
