Administrative / Biographical history

Isadora Duncan was an American dancer, who met Edward Gordon Craig in 1905 when Count Harry Kessler invited Craig to Weimar. Her movement inspired his work creating designs around her dances

In 1906, she gave birth to Craig’s daughter Deirdre Beatrice, who was drowned in the care of their nanny in 1913 when their runaway car went into the Seine.

Their affair ended in 1906; however, they remained in close contact until Duncan’s death in 1927 when her scarf tangled in the wheels and axle of the car in which she was riding.
