Papers collected by Edward A. Craig during his research into Edward Gordon Craig and his life. They concern the career and writings of Jess Dorynne, with whom Edward Gordon Craig has an affair.
The file contains a photocopy of a book entitled ‘The True Ophelia: and other studies of Shakespeare’s women’ (New York: G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1914) published as ‘By an actress’, but now known to be by Dorynne.
Also included is:
A typescript list of ‘annotations in ‘The True Ophelia’
An autograph letter from Rosie Unsworth to Edward A. Craig about ‘The True Ophelia’ (dated 21 January 1973)
A typed letter from Motley Books Limited, to Edward A. Craig regarding a photograph album they have in their collection featuring Jess Dorynne, and a carbon copy of Craig’s reply
A short pamphlet entitled ‘Poetic Recitals’ with autograph annotations by Edward Gordon Craig throughout. On the inside of the back cover Edward A. Craig has written ‘supposed to be by Jess Dorynne – is it?’
