The research papers of Celia Barclay focus on the Sparks and Hardy families, but often branch out to more distant relatives. Barclay's papers have been kept within their original file order and include transcriptions of primary material in the archive, inventories, timelines, answers to various enquiries and correspondence.
The contents of each file have mostly been rehoused, but the titles given to each file by Barclay have been retained:
01 blue ringbinder containing 'A Chronology for Thomas Hardy'
02 orange ringbinder containing a handwritten timeline of the Sparks and Hardy families
03 manilla folder containing research notes on Stephen Duck
04 manilla folder containing notes, labelled 'mostly unimportant' by Barclay
05 manilla folder containing 'research notes' with rough contents list
06 manilla folder containing 'index, notes, pamphlets etc.'
07 manilla folder containing manuscript material about the local area, collected by Barclay
08 manilla folder containing correspondence, including from Nat Sparks to Barclay
09 manilla folder containing typed inventories of the various materials in the Sparks archive
10. File of Celia Barclay containing materials rejected for her book in 1994, including testimonials of Nat Sparks, 1907-1931; a bundle of various Hardy Sparks family photographs, including one of Thomas Hardy; a bundle of watercolours and sketches by James Sparks 1889-1906 and a notebook of Nat Sparks containing lists of artwork brought from London to East Chinnock in 1941 - revised 1955
