Lancelot (Gordon) Hannen (1897-1964) was the only son of Lancelot (Lance) Hannen (1867-1942) and Delia Ellie Mary Dinnis (1872-1975). He was educated at Radley College and Cambridge University. He served in the British Army in France in World War I and was wounded at Arras. After the war, he joined his father at Christie's in 1920; succeeded his father as picture auctioneer in 1938 and became a partner and later Chairman of Christie’s. He married Joyce Clode. They had a son, Lancelot (Guy) Michael Hannen.

Gordon Hannen's papers comprise records and documents relating to his military service in World War I and World War II and relating to his work as auctioneer at Christie's

The family memorial album to Gordon was arranged by his family. An artificial arrangement has been imposed by the archivist on the additional papers
