Arrangement

These autograph music scores were originally arranged by music category according to the divisions in Alan Poulton: The Music of Malcolm Arnold: A Catalogue, Faber (1986), but numbered in no particular order within the categories. In the final phase of cataloguing in 2022-23, the decision was taken to re-arrange the scores within the music categories chronologically and by Opus number. Some errors were discovered in the original placement of scores within the categories. These were corrected and the scores re-numbered. Some categories were not included in the original arrangement but have been incorporated where necessary.

Existence and location of originals

British Library:

MS Mus. 1599. Malcolm Arnold: Symphony no. 6, op. 95; 1967. Autograph fair copy full score in ink with minor annotations in pencil. Signed and dated on f. 72v. Includes the composer’s typescript programme note. First performed at City Hall, Sheffield, 28 June 1968, by the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the composer.
