Content description
This was Williams’ debut work, which won the Eric Gregory Award.
The sub-series covers the creation and development of the work from the early manuscripts and typescripts through to the page proofs.
The manuscripts and typescripts show the development of the poems with the drafts differing from earlier versions to varying degrees. The changes vary from the alteration the word order to complete rewrites of particular stanzas. A number of the early drafts were also written under different titles from the final published version.
The files contain drafts of 29 of the 34 poems which appeared in the final work. The following poems are not represented:
‘Don’t Look Down’
‘The Pool Player’
‘Delphi’
‘Beginning to Go'
'Aborigine'
