This book was published as part of the Penguin Modern Poets series – a run of 27 books, each containing work by three contemporary poets. Williams’s poems featured in volume 11, alongside poems by Michael Donaghy and Andrew Motion.
This sub-series covers the development of the work from correspondence concerning the initial proposal and selection of poems through to typescripts and proof copies of the work. Early draft manuscripts are not included and while some of the typescripts have been corrected, the drafts that have survived mainly represent the working process of selecting poems for inclusion in the edition.
