Content description

The sub-series covers the creation and development of the work from the early manuscripts and typescripts through to proof copies of the work.

The manuscripts and typescripts show the development of the poems with the drafts differing from earlier versions to varying degrees. The changes vary from the alteration the word order to complete rewrites of particular stanzas. A number of the early drafts were also written under different titles from the final published version.

The files contain drafts of all 54 poems which appeared in the final work.

The number of manuscripts and typescript can refer to either complete copies or fragments where he was revising selected sections.

Arrangement

This sub-series has been arranged by individual poem and according to the creative order of the work. This reflects the original order of the files at the time of acquisition.
