J.C. Ogle was part of the 53rd Welsh Division during the Second World War. With the rest of the division, he took part in ‘Operation Overload’, codename for the Battle of Normandy where the Allied forces launched the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe.

Content description

Containing items collected by J.C. Ogle and the 53rd Welsh Division, with particular reference to the division’s role in ‘Operation Overlord’. It contains:

- Envelope of ephemera, including football programmes for matches played by the 53rd Welsh Division and other teams. Also included is photograph of John C. Ogle; a photocopy showing the emblems for the divisions which made up the Second Army, including the 53rd Welsh Division and newspaper cuttings regarding Ogle

- Folder created by J.C. Ogle containing maps that chart the course of the main headquarters for the 53rd Welsh Division as they moved from Normandy to Hamburg

- A copy of ‘Team Spirit, the administration of the 53rd Welsh Division during "Operation Overlord" June 1944 - May 1945’, printed by L. Schwann in Dusseldorf in 1945. This is Ogle’s personal copy and contains his minor annotations

- Manuscript notes by Ogle concerning the military operations he was involved in as part of the 53rd division.

- Mounted and framed Christmas card and postcard with the 53rd Welsh division emblem. The postcard has been signed by Field Marshal B.L. Montgomery, J.R. Henderson, and others.
