Grant, Alexander (1899-1918)

Alexander Grant, only son of Alexander Grant K.C., attended Lambrook and Eton where he joined H. de Havilland’s house in Michaelmas 1912. While at Eton he was second in the junior sculling in 1917. After leaving Eton in Summer 1917 he did not take up his place at Trinity College, Cambridge but joined the Grenadier Guards’ Cadet Corps in August 1917, obtaining his commission in December 1917. He went to the front on 29 April 1918 and served as 2nd Lieutenant the Grenadier Guards until he was killed in action at Canal du Nord on 27 September 1918. He is buried at the Sanders Kepp Military Cemetery, Graincourt-les-Havrincourt near Cambrai.

A small archive of letters, photographs and other documents related to Alexander Grant, OE, killed in action September 1918. Includes Memorial Plaque and king’s letter.

Provenance

The collection belonged to Alexander Grant’s sister, Isabel Ogilvie Allman née Grant.
