During his active service, Pryor wrote frequent letters home, mostly to his mother, with the occasional letter to his father and other family members, which were forwarded on to his mother after his death. The original envelopes are kept with the letters

The letters provide an insight into the life of a junior officer, which while careful not to expose his family to the full horrors of the trenches, they often give his honest opinion of the people around him and the early letters show the innocence of young officers suddenly confronted with the realities of war.

Also included are a file of letters sent to Mrs Pryor after the death of her son.

The arrangement of the papers reflects the organisation imposed by the family, with each file corresponding to each envelope the letters were sorted into. These have been arranged in date order
