Joyce Madeline Mason (née Wigan) (1898–1984) was the only child of Arthur Lawford Wigan (1868–1944) and Beatrice Bagot, and granddaughter of Sir Frederick Wigan (1827–1907). The Wigan family were hop merchants and brewery owners. Her father, uncle, first cousins, and later her husband were all educated at Eton College. In 1917 she married Paul Randle Feilden Mason (1893–1944), a British Army officer and farmer. The couple had four children.
