Content (description)

The draped female stands holding out a roll in her left hand. Her right arm, which is left bare, is by her side. She turns her head, on which she wears a diadem of four stars, slightly to her right.
Inscribed below: Uranie/Cette figure represente Uranie l'une des neuf Muses, fille de Jupiter et de Mnemosine, a laquelle on attribue/ l'invention de l'Astrologie, ainsi que son nom grec semble le marquer. Les papiers roulez qu'elle tient dans sa main/ sont apparement des cartes du Ciel, des Epherimedes, et des Horoscopes. Elle est aussi pour cette raison couronnees d'Etoiles./Cette statue antique de marbre est placee dans la grande Gallerie a Versailles, et dessinee et gravee par S. Thomassin Graveur du Roy 1722.
