Content (description)

Dionysus, wearing an animal skin diagonally from his left shoulder and with his hair in ringlets falling on to his chest, stands leaning on a tall tree trunk on his left. His right arm rests on his head. A vine twines around the trunk.
Inscribed beneath the plinth: S. Thomassin Sculptor Regius C.P.R.
Inscribed beneath: Bacchus Drappe/ On reconnoist aisement Bacchus, au Ceps de raisin qu'il tient d'une main. La peau de Tigre dont il est a/ demy revestu, luy a fait donner le surnom de Drappe qui sert a le distinguer des autres figures de/ Bacchus en marbre. Cette Antique est dans la grande Gallerie de Versailles./
Se vend a Paris chez S. Thomassin rue St. Jacques vis a vis la rue du Platre a l'image s. Jean ave Privilege du Roy.
