Description
Painted landscape view of a sailboat on water; tower and vegetation in the background
Comments
This view of barges on the River Thames seems to include the church at Bray near Maidenhead, in Berkshire, in the distance. It may be an early study for de Wint’s much larger (371 × 648mm) view of Bray on Thames from the Towing Path (Tate collection). De Wint exhibited a view of this subject (probably the Tate version) at the Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1849.
