Description

Painted landscape view of a river, seen through two trees in the foreground

Comments

Just to the right of centre, the white walls of Wynnstay House are seen in the distance of this watercolour view. This house was burnt down in 1858 and a new version constructed on the same site (now converted to private flats and houses). Wynnstay House is located South of Wrexham and just north of the River Dee, seen in the foreground. It was the home of de Wint’s friend and patron Sir Watkins Williams Wyn (1820–1885), and the artist sometimes stayed there as a guest. De Wint first travelled through the area in 1828, but this work is thought to
date from a later visit.
