Identification
Model for a Fountain
assigned by cataloguer
Sculpture comprised of a tower of wide silver cones, squat cylindrical base
This preliminary design model for the fountain near Bekynton is a recent acquisition. The fountain was commissioned from sculptor Barry Mason in c.1999 by former Vice-Provost Tim Card. The model, made from painted MDF, wire and mirrored plastic, demonstrates how the design developed from a tower of eleven cone forms, to the ten stone semi-spheres of the fountain. Mason donated the model to the Royal Society of Sculptors, before it was sold to raise funds for repairs to the Society’s headquarters in South Kensington.
