Victorian photographs show this work and the similar portrait medallion with which it forms a pair, on display in the Head Master's Room, above each of the doors leading to Upper School. The room was described in 1886 as 'full of pictures of Athens and Rome'. [See: St Nicholas: An Illustrated Magazine For Young Folks, Volume 14, 1886, pp.196-197]
