Comments
Late Victorian photographs show this work and the similar portrait medallion, with which it forms a pair, on display on the north wall of the Head Master's Room, within the Upper School building. The room was described in 1886 as 'full of pictures of Athens and Rome' [see: St Nicholas: An Illustrated Magazine For Young Folks, Volume 14, 1886, pp.196-197]. However, in 1940, a bomb destroyed the north wall of the Head Master's Room. It may be that the medallions were recovered from the debris.
