Educated at Shrewsbury School and Christ Church, Oxford, Anthony Chenevix-Trench (1919-1979) served in the artillery in the war, spending 1942-1945 as a prisoner of the Japanese. In 1948 he became an assistant master at Shrewsbury, and after a year as Tutor in Classics at Christ Church, returned to the school as a housemaster. From 1955 to 1963 he was Headmaster of Bradfield College. He became Headmaster of Fettes College, Edinburgh, in 1971
