The Eton Dorney project was formed when the Diocese of Oxford proposed the merger of the parish of Dorney with other local parishes, to the objection of the Patron of the church. A compromise was the creation of a Conference Centre at the vicarage for young people, with the chaplain of Eton College as the priest in charge and Warden of the Centre. The first Warden was Rev. Roger Royle, who held the post from September 1971 to September 1974.
The Eton Dorney Project was formally established by a Trust Deed dated 21 July 1971.
