Francis Gardner was a King's Scholar, Captain of the School and College Wall and Field teams. He returned to Eton in 1951, teaching Physics until his retirement in 1992. A keen sportsman, he played cricket for the Home Park team, and was Chair of the Games Committee. He was housemaster of South Lawn.
