First time he has had to `feel the pang occasioned by the misconduct of a child'. Thanks him for his frank communication and approves his course of action. Will speak to his son himself. Charles ignorant of matter until the boys came to his room with the brandy and consented to drink rather than appear ill-natured. Hopes it will teach him a lesson. In regards to the 5th of November `he has most narrowly indeed escaped a fatal precipice and this ought to be a fearful warning to him for the rest of his life.'
