Arrangement
The many letters from old boys and their parents were largely unsorted and indeed in some confusion but insofar as there was any evidence of arrangement it appeared to be by year. They were therefore all sorted in this way (though not all were datable) and within year as far as possible by writer, though some writers remain unidentified and occasional strays discovered after numbering were placed at the end. In addition, some envelopes may contain letters from more than one writer, or several from the same person sent in the same year or over several years. In these cases, the postmark on the envelope (where readable) has been taken as a guide to where it should be placed. Those for which it has not been possible to establish a year date were sorted by writer and form SCH/M/HKM/5/39
