Peter Lawrence was at Eton, in Mr Powell's house, from 1926 to 1931. After a degree at Christ Church he spent a year at Dehra Dun, in India, assisting Arthur Foot to set up the famous school there, before returning to Eton as a master. He spent the war years in the Navy (He had been Ninth Man while at Eton) and on his return was instrument in reorganising the work of School Office; the more informative Fixtures, with lists of boys, was his introduction. From 1951 to 1968 he held a house, but he continued to be active in many fields especially rowing and the Scouts. In the early 1950s he began to collect old photographs of Eton and on his retirement founded the Photographic Archive. He was also the first Curator of the Museum of Eton Life which opened in 1985.
