Administrative / Biographical history
The Musical Society was founded in 1875. It was to consist of up to 100 present Etonians as Performing Members but the committee might invite others connected with Eton to become Honorary Members. The Musical Instructor was to be President, and the committee was to consist of 10 members, 5 Honorary and 5 Performing. The Society was to give 2 concerts yearly. It also came to organise competitions and eventually concerts by outside performers as well. House Secretaries were appointed to encourage attendance at rehearsals and in 1914 they were formed into a General Committee, the original committee forming an inner Executive Committee.
