Title

Huxley Prize

Level

Series

Administrative / Biographical history

Sir John Graham raised a sum of money from Old Etonians to endow a major science prize, called after Julian Huxley, one of the first science specialists. The intention was to make it equal to the Newcastle and the winner therefore received £200. The first award was in 1987. Rather than award by examination, with the difficulties involved in setting papers that would enable a single science specialist to compete on equal terms, the prize is awarded on a dissertation on a subject of the boy's choice, followed by a viva.
