Content description

Applications from students applying for grants to fund their travel expenses. Applications are for both personal trips and trips which are organised by the school. Each form includes the boy’s name and house, his proposed reason and project for travelling, how much it will cost and how much they wish to apply for concerning the grant. Also includes an endorsement by the boy’s house master. In the proposed reason for the grant the boys state various different intentions.

Some include funding for; school trips – such as to Leningrad -, language study, to obtain work, for educational reasons with something relevant to their degree or A-Level, to teach, to work to further fund their trip or to gain experience, to learn more about different cultures with some boys wishing to experience and understand life in a third world country such as India, to gain skills such as attending a rowing training camp in Europe, and to explore different places. One boy who left Eton a number of years earlier was writing for funding for his medical elective in Hong Kong. Some boys would travel alone whilst others would go accompanied in groups up to 20 people.
