Administrative / Biographical history

Money given for an exhibition for a superannuated Colleger, one who had reached the age of leaving the school but who had not gained a vacancy at King's College, Cambridge. In 1966 the Statutes were amended to consolidate the Reynolds, Bryant, Davies, Chamberlayne and Berriman Prizes and Exhibitions and open them to competition by all senior boys. In 1972 the Secretary of State for Education and Science approved a Scheme for paying all the income of these awards and many others into a new fund called the Head Master's Fund, which permitted the use of funds for educational purposes other than those for which they had originally been given.
