Reynolds Exhibition
Series
John Reynolds (1671-1758), uncle of the artist Sir Joshua Reynolds, was a Fellow from 1734. He left the College £3100 for three exhibitions for superannuated Collegers who intended to be ordained, preferably studying at Exeter College, Oxford. This was later widened to include all Oxford and Cambridge Colleges. In 1966 the Statutes were amended to consolidate the Reynolds, Bryant, Davies, Chamberlayne and Berriman Prizes and Exhibitions and open them to competition by all senior boys. In 1972 the Secretary of State for Education and Science approved a Scheme for paying all the income of these awards and many others into a new fund called the Head Master's Fund, which permitted the use of funds for educational purposes other than those for which they had originally been given. The Reynolds as a separate award the disappeared.
