William Barclay Prize Fund

£200 for a prize for King's Scholars for a reading of the English tongue. In 1944, Major (retired) Maurice Edward Barclay, established this prize in memory of his son, William Maurice Barclay KS, who was a Midshipman serving in the Royal Navy ship, HMS Mahratta and was killed in action on 25th February 1944. The prize was to be awarded “to the winner of an examination in the reading of the English tongue” including the Bible. The prize today is awarded for consistently high standard of reading in College Chapel.
