This series is a direct continuation of the Buttery Books, laid out in the same way, ending with a summary by quarters of bread baked, beer brewed, and the amounts of both consumed. From 1869, the books are titled Butler's Account. This change is marked by an alteration from blue paper covers (except for the first three, bound in vellum) to marbeld board with contemporary labels. Later volumes have no labels. Contemporary titles and dates on the Butler's Books are noted; many of the others have year dates in a 20th century hand. The year runs from audit to audit, i.e. December to December, or, after 1857, November to November
