This restoration began in 1694-5 with the building of the stairs to the north door of the ante-chapel and a new roof. In 1699, Matthew Banks remodelled the interior on classical lines. An elaborately carved altar piece, surmounted by urns, was placed at the east end, the walls were panelled, and the old altar rails were removed to Burnham Church.
