COLL LIV 04
Climping, Sussex
Series
The rectory of Climping was one of the appurtenances of the priory or nunnery of Lyminster, a cell of the Norman priory of Almeneche, which was granted to the College in the Endowment Charter of 1441 and was regranted by Edward IV in 1462. The right of nomination to the rectory remained with the Bishop of Chichester although the College presented, but in 1852 the bishop transferred the advowson to the Bishop of Oxford (who passed it to the Crown in 1855) and the College does not appear to have objected. They continued as lay rectors.
